Windows users can now keep up to date with all the latest party listings with the Festival Weather Desktop Party Calendar. You can also display it on your own website, quickly and easily, by simply copying the code at the bottom of this post and pasting it in.
It uses the windows active desktop (so no downloading of files required) and will automatically update with all the latest event listings from Festival Weather. In addition, we have recently changed the way that events are entered on Festival Weather, making it easier for promoters to enter them in a consistent format and easier for you to see what is going on.
The Calendar comes in two flavours:
The Basic Calendar
The Picture Calendar
How to install the calendar on your desktop (windows users only):
Right click on your desktop and click 'properties' to open the 'display properties' window.
Click the 'desktop' tab, followed by the 'Customize Desktop' button.
This should open the 'Desktop Items' window. Click the 'Web' tab.
The Desktop items window.
Click 'New' then when it prompts you to enter an address, paste in:
http://www.festivalweather.com/forum/desktop_calendar.php
for the basic calendar
or
http://www.festivalweather.com/forum/picture_desktop_calendar.php
for the picture calendar.
Click OK.
You will now get a window entitled 'Add item to active desktop(TM)'.
Click OK again.
A window should now flash up saying it's syncronising. Just wait a couple of seconds and it should finish and close itself.
It is possible that your firewall may ask whether to let 'windows synchronization manager' access the internet. If so, click 'yes' - This is just a component of windows and it needs to access the web to update the page.
Click 'ok' to close the 'Desktop items' window, then 'apply' on the 'display properties' page to apply the changes.
Now a window should have opened up on your desktop, showing the calendar.
The window will probably be the wrong size and shape by default and may be in the wrong place (ie behind a load of icons). If you hover your mouse over the top of the window displaying the calendar, a header bar should appear allowing you to move the calendar like any other window. You can also resize it by dragging the edges, like a normal window.
You should move it to where you want it and resize the window to just big enough to fit the calendar without a scroll bar appearing.
The calendar is now installed. You can get a list of events on a night, simply by clicking the date. It will sit quite merrily on your desktop and update itself automatically every so often.
How to install the calendar on your own website:
To add the basic calendar to your own webpage, just copy the code below and paste it into your html:
Code: › <IFRAME SRC="http://www.festivalweather.com/forum/desktop_calendar.php" TITLE="Festival Weather Party Calendar" height="284" width="242">
Sorry, Your Browser Doesn't Support Frames
</IFRAME> |
Or for the picture calendar:
Code: › <IFRAME SRC="festival_weather_calendar.php" TITLE="Festival Weather Party Calendar" height=450 width=190 frameborder=0>
Sorry, your browser does not support frames
</IFRAME> |
The calendar will update automatically, the same as if it were on a desktop, meaning your visitors will always have access to the latest party listings.
