£1 for 1 apple

PostAuthor: spacyspiral » Fri May 29, 2009 5:10 pm

Forgot to pack baked beans so thought not to worry, will buy them from the festival general store.
Well, knew I would be paying a bit over the odds as festival prices kick in and they were organic as
well. Little did I know that the friendly organic woman was actually not joking when she asked me for
£3.20 for 2 tins of beans. Not to worry, the sauce is made from organic tomatoes, so it is obviously worth
every penny. What a relief when I realized that it must have been me being unreasonable.... The next
customer was asked to pay £1 for 1 apple. £3.20 for 2 tins of organic baked beans....Bargain!
Let's all be green.

I also witnessed £1 for 1 banana, and £1.50 for a fairtrade bar of chocalate which normally sells in the co-op for about 48p. Great festival, but some of the prices for food was a bit TOO steep.

aw, come on guys! It's a festy, food and ting are expensive, I don't understand how this is news? If you don't want to pay loads for basic stuff, bring it with you, it's not brain surgery. If you want the convenience of someone else sorting all that out - buying a tent, paying for storage, going shopping, paying for a pitch, bringing it, displaying it etc then expect to pay a bit more than normal for it innit.

I thought the prices were OK. Admittedly I didn’t buy a tin of beans or an apple. :dizzy:

I find it quite incredible that people actually trying to justify the prices charged at the store.
Considering everything the festival wants to achieve and stands for I felt rather cheesed off that
just after watching 'Zeitgeist', I was asked to pay up to 300% more just because there was no competition
to offer it cheaper. Corporate capitalism at its best.

Yes it was a festival, yes - how stupid of me to forget baked beans...I need to be punished, yes the product was
organic and therefore has to be charged at a higher price...I get all that.

1 quid for one apple...I would be HIGHLY embarrassed to ask people to pay that as there is obviously
no justification for it.

The food stores did not overcharge people and the portions were quite generous to make up for the
bit more you pay at a festival.

Totally crazy to let people get away with taking advantage, no matter under what guise ! ...somebody I know would call it hippycrisy !

I'm not trying to justify the prices, or have a go at you, all I'm saying is it's surely not a shock/news? I mean, really?

I wanna go in your bubble

If a £1 apple is too much then don’t buy one!
If no-one buys them then the price will fall, as they will have to sell them.

If they are selling them for £1 and people are buying them, then clearly they are priced right. :o

Supply and demand.

Personally for £1 I would expect it to be peeled and sliced and fed to me.

Oh well we can dream :dizzy:

The Mushroom Burgers were lush, a meal in a bun, yum yum. I tried a few different toppings, favourite was the mashed olives ( I don't think they were called mashed olives btw, but that's what they were) I was definately not mashed ;)
